Over the past weekend, thenation.com had a story written by Peter Rothberg about protest songs that matter. The list was interesting, but personally I had heard only one of them. How are they influential, if you have never heard them?
The story got me to thinking about what my list would include and about more recent protest songs. Even though I am a product of the baby boom, I hardly think we should claim exclusive ownership of great protest songs. So, here is my list of the ten best protest songs of all time and my list of the best of the 21st century (2000-2011).
