Robert F. Kennedy gave one of the most important yet shortest speeches ever made by any American politician in Indianapolis the evening of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The speech, delivered from the back of a flatbed truck, lasted only 4 minutes 57 seconds. While many U.S. cities erupted into full scale rioting after the news of Dr. King’s death, Indianapolis remained calm after hearing Kennedy’s inspirational words. Two months later, RFK met with the same fate.
