Alternative Voting Explained
This system would work best for congress, systems where there are multiple seats available.
Each party (and there can be lots of parties) makes a ranked-ordered list of their candidates. Then voters choose one party to represent them. Say the votes come out like this:
Repub: 35%
Dem: 40%
Green: 8%
Whig(lol): 17%
Then the Republicans would get 35% of the seats available. The seats are filled in the order that the republicans listed their candidates. This way, everyone has a proportional voice in a large body such as congress. I think that the only problem would be situations where a party doesn't have enough members to fill the number of seats they won.
