We're still a little confused about all this, but one thing seems clear: There are a lot of steamy album covers no one will be seeing on Facebook anytime soon. Here are ten of our favorites.
10. The Cars -- Candy-O
Not technically a photograph, but still plenty alluring, is the cover of the Cars' 1979 sophomore album, Candy-O. Even given the fact that the blonde here is painted, we'd bet this pin-up style image is still too hot for the Facebook censors to approve.
9. Dwarves -- Drug Store
Pretty much every Dwarves cover is a hilarious and hot take on the above theme: naked women and a little person. The Chicago-via-S.F. punk band loves chaos, boobies, and --
we're just guessing here -- bubbles.
8. Sugar Ray -- Lemonade and Brownies
Let this cover stand as the only thing Sugar Ray ever did that's worth remembering. But on second thought, we're not even sure we want to give the band that much credit. At least there's no danger of a Facebook censor-tripping reissue!
7. Queen -- Body Language single
Proof that you don't have to bare any goods to end up with sexy cover art, this image for the 1982 single "Body Language" is about as suggestive as the song itself. Also, it'd make a great image for a naughty caption contest.
6. Acid Mothers Temple -- Myth of the Love Electrique
Then again, maybe the best route is to just go full-frontal? That's what Japanes psych-prog outfit Acid Mothers Temple did here, and, well, we're still talking about it. There's no way you'll be posting it on your buddy's wall, though.
5. The Jimi Hendrix Experience -- Electric Ladyland (UK)
You probably know this album's original cover, that intense, red-tinged photo of Hendrix singing. That was the art when 1970's Electric Ladyland originally came out in the U.S. But when it saw release in the U.K. a month later, that image wasn't ready for press, so the labels decided just to put this picture on the front instead. It wouldn't have flown in the States -- or on Facebook -- but it's okay with us.
4. Handsome Furs -- Sound Kapital
Here's the newest entry into the totally nude album cover club, from the Canadian electronic-pop duo Handsome Furs. This one is as arty as it is sexy. And you should see the NSFW video for the album's first single, "What About Us," which seems taken from the same shoot as the above photo.
3. Madonna -- Spank
This is the image on an ultra-rare picture disc that includes an interview with the Madge herself. The 10-inch collectors item will run you a hefty price -- and while its cover may not seem sexy in quite the same way as some of the above, remember: that's Madonna you're looking at.
2. Joey Heatherton -- The Joey Heatherton Album
Actress, dancer, and pop singer Joey Heatherton went to Catholic school as a young girl. We wonder what her headmaster would've said had she seen this, the cover of Heatherton's 2004 career music retrospective. And there can't be much question about how Facebook's terms of service would treat it.
1. Roxy Music -- Country Life
Almost any Roxy Music cover art could quality for this list, but the controversial image on the front of 1974's Country Life stands out even by this band's standards. Now almost 40 years old, the image blends nudity, strangeness, and arty appeal in a way that most bare-it-all cover art doesn't. Who cares if you'll never see it on Facebook?
