On September 21, 1974, Carl Douglas was at No.1 on the UK singles chart with 'Kung Fu Fighting,' which also hit number one on U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in 1974. The R.I.A.A. awarded gold disc status on November 27. It won a Grammy Award for Best Selling Single in 1974. It eventually went on to sell eleven million records worldwide, making it one of the best-selling singles of all time. The song was recorded in 10 minutes, had started out as a B-side and made Douglas a One Hit Wonder.
