A few months ago the FDA had records of almost 1000 dogs reported to be affected by chicken jerky treats from China. Were they chicken jerky? Most recent article I could find. It appears that Chinese government officials did let FDA inspect some jerky sites in China, but did not let them take samples for independent analysis (they allowed for only Chinese Labs for testing). Here's a way to submit a complaint with the FDA, they would like to know your friends ordeal.
