This song is about a guy who is still in love with his ex-girlfriend, he never thought he would be so deeply in love with her but he is. It's her wedding day with someone new hence when he says I never thought it would hurt just to hear I do. He talks about her love life being complete while his his empty. That is why he says he will smile and go because on the outside he will be happy but on the inside he is hurting. He knows he has lost the girl of his dreams to another man.
